Client Introduction
David Newens is a portrait painter who also embarks on a variety of other subject matter. For over 20 years, his works have frequently been selected for hanging in major open exhibitions in London. On the verge of retiring full time, David came to Amasci Creative Limited with a plan whereby he could expand his creative hobby into a more focused potential part-time business. We had an initial meeting with David and we came up with a solution and website specification where by potential clients could view some of his work and contact him to talk about potential commissions.
As David was not familiar with the technologies nor was he certain in what he required from his website, we helped David to reach and achieve a specification he was completely happy with whilst advising him in the best steps and website procedures and not selling him things he didn't need or wouldn't’t benefit from.
Project Overview
The project was a reasonable small website, however, after an initial meeting with David it was quickly established what was required for the website, who the website was aimed and needed to appeal to and what sections were going to be present.
The website was created using html and css and is a complete table less design (website shell) – with only a few tables used through some of the content. The website validates and is 100% W3C compliant to HTML 4.01 Transitional and CSS.

Amasci had to show its flexibility and adaptability with a prime example of how we can cater for any clients needs. David did not have access to a computer let alone the internet; this was not an issue for us though. We managed to present the designs, stages of the website and final viewing to David at our own offices and David supplied photographs of his artwork which was scanned and turned digital. David also supplied written content which was again typed up and put into the website.
Once the site was complete we printed and supplied a full colour presentation of the website (every page) so that David had something to reference when potential clients contacted him.
This restricted access to the internet and a computer meant that David was going to be limited to only phone and address contact, which took away somewhat of the point of having a website whereby users could contact David to talk about potential commissions. This is where Amasci stepped in to offer another helping hand – we gave David an Email Management package – whereby we would look after all potential leads and pass them onto David directly when enough information was gathered. This meant we could add email address to the website design as well as a fully integrated contact form.
The main objectives were as follows:
- Create full branding and identity
Establish a set of colours and branding that would suite David's own tastes as well as being subjective to his potential user base. - Fully Accessible Website that would appeal client
base
The website had to be clean, compact, easy to navigate (from any page), accessible, whilst conforming to a design that would appeal to the potential client base (Countrylife Magazine Readers). - Simple, Clean and Easy Portrait Gallery
Creating a gallery section that was not overwhelming with too many examples. We decided to show 10 of the best examples of work. Each portrait/piece had to be the full image on both the thumbnail and the larger view. The link between the gallery section and the full image had to be easy to use and most of all clear how to get back to the gallery. - Prominent Contact Details
Present David Newens and his telephone prominently throughout the website.
The website has been extremely well received by David Newens and he believes it is certain to generate new commissions and leads.
