Case Study :: MK Workwear & Safety Company Limited

Client Introduction

MK Workwear is an established company providing first class products and award winning customer service. Supplying a full range of workwear and safety clothing they also offer their own in-house embroidery and print facilities we can guarantee the finest finished quality and rapid delivery. MK Workwear work for organisations of every size and type, from the largest multi-national companies and public sector organisations, to schools and clubs.

Project Overview

MK Workwear came to Amasci with a desperate need to redevelop what was their existing website. The reasons behind this decision extended further than just an aesthetic basis although this was part of the reasoning. The main problem that MK Workwear had experienced with their old eCommerce system was the inability to be able to update the website and this had therefore forced the website to fall behind and become outdated and unused.

MK Workwear where immediately impressed by our eCommerce system which allowed them to easily add, edit and delete products and shop categories at the click of a few buttons. Our eCommerce system also offered so much more and was easily adaptable to cope with some of the specific requirements that MK Workwear had regarding their shop and setup. After establishing a brief and agreeing how to proceed with the project we took on the task off converting their old (very plain and bright) website into a complete new design that was not only appealing, clean and corporate whilst maintaining a retail feeling but that also was build for search engine optimisation using CSS and compliant HTML code.

The design was well received and after some changes and further discussions we had this finalised and created into a website shell and the static pages built. As part of the design we created a XML driven flash logo scoller. This was created to display in random order the logos of past clients of MK Workwear. The XML flash logo scroller allows for easy addition of new logos and is unlimited in the number of logos it can integrate. The static pages included a bespoke contact map that we created on the contact page amongst additional pages for the bespoke Audi and SEAT sections.

The Audi and SEAT sections where only accessible through specific domain names http://www.mkworkwear.com/audi and http://www.mkworkwear.com/seat and these categories where hidden from the main website. This was one of the bespoke requirements to the eCommerce system and we had to create some clever template coding to display specific graphics and links when within the Audi and SEAT sites.

Before the bespoke work was taken out, the eCommerce system was installed and all templates and layouts created with details for the shop setup. Our eCommerce allows for the uploading of bulk products therefore having the ability to transfer the existing product base into the new eCommerce system. However, the existing MK Workwear website and shop did not allow us to create or export the existing catalogue in any manor or fashion. Therefore this meant that all the products had to be manually added to the new system. This did allow MK Workwear the ability to strip down their existing setup and recreate exactly how they required the new one.

After adding all the products into the system we finished off the final pieces of bespoke work which included the ability to skip the credit card payment for users who supplied a purchase order number. We also introduced the bolt on account manager functionality which allows users to register their details and login to the website to produce quicker transactions and view past orders etc.
