Why Support and Maintenance Matters
My guide to why support and maintenance are important for your website.
Your website is a significant investment, not a one-time event. Like any high-performance machine, it needs regular servicing to stay at its peak.
My maintenance and support service exists to protect your investment. It’s a partnership built to keep your website secure, optimised, and effective.
Every project is different, and we’d love to hear about yours.
The person who built your site is the same person looking after it. When something needs attention, you're not placed in a queue for a junior team to triage. You reach me directly, and I already know your website inside out — the code, the structure and your business goals. That means faster resolutions, smarter decisions and genuine accountability. No hand-offs, no "we'll look into that" delays.
I don't wait for problems to surface. I actively monitor your website and hosting environment so issues are identified and resolved before they reach your visitors. CMS and server updates are scheduled and managed, security patches are applied promptly, and backups are verified — not just set and forgotten.
Keeping your site up to date also protects your long-term investment. Regular maintenance prevents technical debt from building up, making future updates quicker, cheaper and less disruptive.
My support doesn't stop at keeping the lights on. As an ongoing partner, I take the time to understand how your business is growing and where your website needs to evolve to keep pace. Whether it's a CMS question, advice on a suspicious email, a new article to publish or a conversation about a new feature — I'm here. A direct line to someone who knows your brand, your history and your goals.
Clients on a retainer also get priority over non-retainer work when raising additional development requests. You'll never be waiting in line behind someone I've just met.

Every arrangement is bespoke, but a typical support package covers some or all of the following:
We'll discuss exactly what you need and put together a package that fits. Nothing is prescribed — it's tailored to your site and your business.
Every package is quoted individually, based on what your site needs and the level of involvement that's right for you. There's no one-size-fits-all pricing — just an honest conversation about what makes sense.
Get in touch and I'll put something together for you.
The core maintenance package covers ongoing updates, monitoring, backups, and ad-hoc support — but it does not include new features, significant enhancements, or content updates by default. Specifically:
I'll always be clear about what falls inside or outside the agreed scope before any additional work begins.
Yes. If you'd rather not log into the CMS, or if your site is a static build without one, I can handle content updates as part of your arrangement. This typically covers publishing new articles or news, updating page copy, swapping out images, and making regular smaller changes.
eShot design and send, and other digital marketing support, can also be folded in. Just get in touch and we'll work out what's right for you.
Because I monitor your site and server around the clock, in most cases I'm already investigating before you or your visitors have noticed anything. If something does need your attention, you contact me directly — not a ticket queue, not a call centre. I know your website inside out, which means resolutions are faster and more considered than you'd get from a generic support line.
If a problem requires additional development work outside the agreed scope, I'll advise you promptly and clearly before proceeding.
No. Support arrangements are rolling monthly agreements. Either party can propose changes or give notice within one month — there are no long-term lock-ins. I believe in keeping clients through excellent service, not restrictive contracts.
Hosting covers the infrastructure your site lives on — the dedicated server, uptime, SSL, and DNS management. Support and maintenance is the active, ongoing care of the site itself — the CMS, plugins, code, content, and the support relationship.
Most clients have both, and together they provide a complete, managed digital foundation. You can read more on the Hosting & Domains page.
As a general rule, no. Because I take full responsibility for the sites I look after, I need to know the codebase inside out — the architecture, the decisions made, and why. Taking on maintenance for an unknown codebase introduces variables I can't confidently stand behind.
If you're looking to move to a new website, I'd love to discuss building something properly from the ground up and managing it from day one.
Not every site I build uses a CMS — some are static sites, which by nature require less ongoing maintenance at the CMS level. For static sites, the focus shifts to hosting health, backups, monitoring, and support. Content management on a static site can also be arranged as an optional extra — just send the changes over and I'll take care of it.
